SATISFIED WITH CHRISTMAS
CHRISTMAS REVISITED # 6
The classic example of someone who was dissatisfied with Christmas was Ebenezer Scrooge!
Perhaps this Christmas, or another Christmas, you have been dissatisfied with Christmas because:
This Christmas morning, we have already met three people who were very satisfied with Christmas. Not one of them was there at the stable where Jesus was born, but all three met Jesus as an infant or a small child.
Simeon Was Satisfied Perceiving – Luke 2:25-35
Anna Was Satisfied Praising and Proclaiming – Luke 2:36-38
The Wise Men Were Satisfied Presenting – Matthew 2:1-12
Are you satisfied this Christmas?

2 KINGS 6 – STEADY AGAINST THE FOE
Life of Elisha, The Steady Prophet #7 of 9
As Christians, we will have enemies for the sake of Christ. 2 Timothy 3:12, John 15:19
How we deal with our enemies will be an indication of how closely we are walking with God.
Enemies tend to scare us, but God wants us to be fearless before them. Proverbs 3:5-6, 29:25
The prophet Elijah was fearless before his enemies. We can learn from his example.
HIS PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY RIGHTEOUSNESS - Vss. 8-14
Elisha was sharing Syria's war plans with the King of Israel. Elisha's knowledge came from God.
When the King of Syria discovered that Elisha was doing this, he became Elisha's enemy.
He sent soldiers to apprehend him.
Elisha got in trouble for doing what was right. We need to realize that when we do what is right, we will also make enemies. We must make sure however that we are doing what is right. 1 Peter 2:19-20, 3:16-17, 4:15-16
HIS PROTECTION CAME FROM GOD - Vss. 15-17
Elisha was not upset because he knew God was protecting him. He asked God to show his servant the great heavenly host that had them protected.
We must remember that God has promised to protect us and He is able to take care of us even through "impossible" circumstances. Isaiah 41:10, 1 John 4:4, Hebrews 2:13-14, Jeremiah 32:27
HIS PRAYERS CLIMAXED IN VICTORY - Vs. 18
Elisha's prayer that his enemies would become blind was answered. This prayer did not result in permanent difficulty for his enemies, but enabled him to be delivered from their power.
We must trust that God will answer our prayers. Luke 18:1, James 5:16-18
HIS PLAN CALLED FOR LOVE - Vss. 19-23
Elijah "blessed" his enemies feeding them and sending them home in peace.
Our Lord Jesus expects us to act in like fashion. Matthew 5:43-48, Romans 12:18-21
The end result of the kindness Elisha showed was a cessation of raids made on Israel's towns.

2 KINGS 6:24-7:20 – THE STEADY WITNESS
Life of Elisha, The Steady Prophet #8 of 9
In this story I see the lepers as a picture of the born again Christians.
Eventually the lepers spread the good news that the famine was over and there was food, clothes, and money available.
As Christians we are to spread the word of the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ. We are to be steady, consistent witnesses for Christ. After giving the background of the story in 2 Kings 6:24-7:2, point out that these lepers remind us Christians of:
THE PAST (The way we were.) Vss.3-5
Hurting Vs. 3 - We were hurting because of our sin.
Hungry Vs. 4 - We were Spiritually hungry for something better.
Honest Vss. 4-5 - No one gets saved until they honestly admit they are
sinners and turn to Christ in faith.
THE PRESENT (The way we are.) Vs. 8
(Vs. 5-7 tell of the fate of the Syrian army.)
Rich - We have great riches in Christ. Ephesians 1:3
Satisfied - We have great satisfaction in what Christ has done for us.
Selfish - All too often we keep our joy in Christ to ourselves.
THE PROMOTION (The way we should be.) Vss. 9-20
These lepers were:
Convicted - Vs. 9 - We need to be convicted that we shouldn't keep
silent about our salvation. (Psalm 107:2)
Convincing - Vss. 10-11 - We need to be convincing others of the
joys of salvation. (1 Peter 3:15
Converting - Vss. 13-16 - As a result of the lepers' testimony, many were fed. As a result
of our testimony, many will come to Christ.

2 KINGS 13:14-20 – STEADY TO THE END
Life of Elisha, The Steady Prophet #9 of 9
Elisha was an old man who was on his deathbed. However, Elisha was still steady, challenging Joash to a deeper faith.
POWER NEEDED - Vs. 14
Joash was probably lamenting the eminent death of Elisha, and realized that his power as a prophet in Israel would be missing. The King evidently realized that the loss of a godly man was equivalent to a loss of God's power. See 2 Kings 2:12. We have probably lamented the death of a godly man or woman who showed the power of God in their lives. We have probably wondered who would replace them.
POWER COMMUNICATED - Vss. 15-16
Elisha placed his hands on the king's hands, indicating that the power was coming from God. We must remember that power has been communicated to us through the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8
POWER PROMISED - Vs. 17
The king was to shoot an arrow in the direction of the enemy.
The arrow was symbolic of the victory that God would give over the enemy.
POWER NEGLECTED - Vs. 18
Elisha told the king to smite the ground with the arrows. Perhaps he was to shoot them into the ground. Instead of using up all his arrows, he showed his limited faith by only hitting the ground 3 times.
POWER LIMITED - Vs. 19
Elisha was unhappy with Joash's lack of faith. The king should have hit the ground more often and he would have had total victory! Each time the King hit the ground was symbolic of a battle won over the enemy. We are limited in our victories over Satan by our lack of faith. The more we use our faith, the more we will have the victory!

ACTS 16:6-33 – IN THE SERVICE OF THE KING
INTRODUCTION - If you are like me, you usually do not take the time to compare yourself with the Apostle Paul. He was such a great man that we wouldn't think of comparing ourselves to him. But let's do some comparing because there are some similarities between Paul and us.
1. Paul was self-righteous before he was saved, so was I.
2. Paul was a sinner before he was saved, so was I.
3. Paul's sins were paid for on the cross before he ever realized he needed a Savior.
4. Paul was confronted by the Lord Jesus Christ, who called him to be saved. Through the message a preacher and the conviction of the Holy Spirit, Christ called me to be saved.
5. Paul's sins were forgiven, although they were great. My sins are forgiven, although they are great.
6. Paul was saved for a purpose, to serve Christ, and make Him known. I am saved for that same purpose.
7. The Apostle Paul was the servant of the King. I am also Servant of the King.
Because there are so many similarities between our lives and the life of Paul, Paul can teach us much. We will never measure up to his greatness, but we can learn from Him, and thus complete all that God wants us to do.
BACKGROUND:
This was the second missionary journey.
Barnabas, partner for the first journey, had a disagreement with Paul over Mark, who deserted on the first journey. Acts 15:37-39
Barnabas left with Mark and Paul chose Silas as his partner. Timothy was later added to the team. Because Luke uses the word "we" in this passage, it is evident that Luke was there too. Acts 15:40-16:3
THERE WAS A CALL Vss. 6-12
Paul was called of God to be an apostle. Acts 9:15-16
Paul received other calls from the Lord during his time of ministry. For instance, he was called to be a missionary in Acts 13:1-3.
In these verses Paul receives both negative and positive calls.
He was not called to minister in Asia or Bithynia at this time (Vss. 6-8), although Paul would later minister in Ephesus, which is Asia. Also someone ministered in Bithynia, because Peter addresses his first Epistle to believers in Bithynia and other areas.
Paul was called by a vision to minister in Macedonia (Vss. 9-12), which is part of Europe.
We will receive both negative and positive calls as we serve the Lord. There will be times when it will be clear that the Lord doesn't want us doing a certain thing, and other times when it will be obvious that the Lord does want us doing things.
God might not call you to be a pastor or a missionary, but he will call you to use your spiritual gift for His glory. And he might call you to be a leader in the church, or a teacher, or as a witness to a specific individual.
We need to be in the Word, in prayer, and alert to what God might be calling us to do.
THERE WAS COMMUNICATION - Vss. 13, 16-18, 28, 31
Paul was called to communicate the message of salvation - Vss. 13 and 31
Paul was called to communicate authority - Vss. 16-18
Paul was called to communicate encouragement - Vs. 28
There will be times when we are called upon to communicate in these same three areas.
THERE WAS CONFLICT - Vss. 19-24
When the Gospel is preached, there will be conflict. When God works, Satan will oppose. 2 Timothy 3:12
THERE WAS CHORUS - Vs. 25
The chorus was a chorus of praise to God, in spite of poor circumstances. We too, are to rejoice in all situations. Philippians 4:4
THERE WERE CONVERSIONS - Vss. 14-15, 26-33
Lydia, the Jailer, and his family all came to know Christ as Savior.
When we follow the Lord's directions, others will be influenced to trust Christ as well.

JAMES 5:1-6 – THE DANGERS OF PROSPERITY
Most people would like to be richer than they are. We don't like struggling to make a living. There is no sin in being rich, although the Bible does warn us against the "love of money" (1 Timothy 6:10). The Bible also warns us of the dangers than accompany wealth.
FUTURE MISERIES - Vs. 1
James is calling the unsaved rich to repentance before it is too late.
FALSE SECUTITY - Vss. 2-3
The unsaved rich put their trust in their riches. Gold and silver do not exactly rust (canker), but there will be a day when they will be useless. Matthew 6:19-21
FAULTY BUSINESS PRACTICES - Vs. 4
When money is the goal of your life it is easy to forget principles. In this verse the example of a rich man cheating his employees is used. Leviticus 19:13, Proverbs 3:27
FOOLISH PLEASURES - Vs. 5
Look at some of the high-priced athletes who are loaded with money. They squander money on foolish pleasure, because they have the money. Also see Luke 12:16-21
Being rich toward God is more important than pleasure. Matthew 6:28-33
FRAMING THE INNOCENT - Vs. 6
Those who desire money, power and pleasure will stop at nothing to get what they want. An example is the story of Ahab and Naboth found in 1 Kings 21.
