SERMON SEEDS ARCHIVES

REVELATION

Through no fault of our own, about 5 years of Sermon Seeds was               deleted from the Website of the First Baptist Church.

We decided that it was time to begin archiving them in a different way.

Please be patient as we gradually archive these outlines.

REVELATION 4:11 – CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FOR JESUS

Christmas is coming, and most of us have a sizable Christmas shopping list. I wonder how many have on their list the one who's birthday we celebrate, the Lord Jesus Christ? He's the only one I know who celebrates a birthday and watches others get more presents than He does.

Revelation 4 is a heavenly scene showing the worship around the throne of God. The four and twenty elders are worshipping God, and cast crowns at His feet. As they cast these thrones they say, "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour, and power..."

Here are three things that every Christian can give the Triune God as Christmas presents.

GLORY

Glory is praise. We can and should continually give God praise and Thanksgiving. Hebrews 13:15, Philippians 4:4, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Psalm 29:2, Psalm 100

HONOR

We honor God by:

1. Trusting Christ As Savior. Ephesians 2:8-9

2. Doing good works Ephesians 2:10

3. Using fitting speech. Ephesians 4:29

4. Avoiding the wrong places. Psalm 1:1

5. Doing all things for His glory. Colossians 3:23

6. Thinking the right thoughts. Philippians 4:8

7. Being Obedient. John 14:15

POWER

Allow God's power to work in you. Ephesians 5:18-21, Galatians 5:22-23

Allow God's power to work through you. Philippians4:13

REVELATION 5:12 – WORTHY OF WORSHIP

Revelation 5:12 (KJV) - Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

Colossians 3:17

Because the Lord Jesus Christ is worthy of worship, He is worthy to receive:

  1. Power (and Authority) – Hebrews 1:1-3, Acts 2:32-36, How much authority does He really have in your life?
  2. Riches – Romans 12: 1 – Riches = Tithes (Money), Time, Talents, Thoughts, Trust
  3. Wisdom – 1 Corinthians 1:30, Ephesians 1:17
  4. Strength – John 15:4-5, Philippians 4:13
  5. Honor – Matthew 15:8, Philippians 4:8
  6. Glory – 2 Corinthians 10:17, Psalm 34:1-3
  7. Blessing – Psalm 103:2, Nehemiah 9:5-6

REVELATION 21:1-8 – ALL THINGS NEW!

Thinking About Heaven #1

God wants us to understand about Heaven. Ephesians 1:18

There are many misconceptions about Heaven, including that it’s boring, and there’s nothing to do but sit on a cloud, having wings like angels, and strumming on a harp!

Nothing could be farther from the truth. So, let’s talk about Heaven for the next three weeks based on Revelation 21 and 22 and Revelation 2-3.

We are not talking about the current Heaven where we go when we die for the resurrection from the dead.  We are talking about the Eternal State, the Heaven of all eternity.

After the rapture of the Saints, the great Tribulation, the Battle of Armageddon, and after the return of Christ to earth (Revelation 19), the millennial reign of Christ for a thousand years (Revelation 20:6-7), the final rebellion of Satan (Revelation 20:7-10), and the final judgement of the unsaved (Revelation 20:11-18), God is going to make all things new!

Revelation 21: 5 – God will make all things new!

NEW PLACES - Vss. 1-2

New heaven and new earth – Isaiah 65:17, 66:22, 2 Peter 3:10-13

No More Seas – Why? Because they won’t be necessary!

Ray Stedman -  "The earth is bathed in God's great antiseptic solution composed of about 96 percent water, 3.5 percent salt, and about .5 percent trace constituents---chlorine, magnesium, calcium, and the like.  The salty brine of the ocean purges, cleanses, and preserves our planet making it fit to live in.”

Vs. 2 – New Jerusalem – Our new home! Beautiful! More about this next week, Lord willing.

NEW PRESENCE - Vs. 3

The New Jerusalem will be home to God. We will feel and see, and know His presence. We will see Him. We will be totally righteous in a totally righteous environment!

NEW PEACE - Vs. 4

Tears will be wiped away. Death, sorrow, crying, and pain will be eliminated.

NEW PEOPLE - Vss. 6b-7

Vs. 6b – You can have all these things if you have your thirst quenched now. Isaiah 55:1, John 4:13-14

Vs. 7 - Those who are “overcomers” will inherit all things. 1 John 5:4-5

NEW PROHIBITION - Vs. 8

Those who sinned without coming to Christ will be prohibited from entering. These are those who never repented and turned to Christ by faith.

REVELATION 22:1-8 – WHAT A CITY!

Thinking About Heaven #2

Understandings of this passage do vary.  I have opted for brief notes here. I suggest you study the passage for yourself and draw your own conclusions.

Think of a city where

  • There is no fear - Crime is 0%
  • Nobody locks their doors
  • There is no pollution
  • There is no mental illness
  • There are no politics
  • There are no taxes
  • There’s no need for hospitals, funeral homes, or graveyards
  • There are no accidents
  • There is no racial discrimination
  • There is no lying, stealing, or cheating
  • There is no false religion or religious “whackos”

Most of you realize that I am talking about Heaven or The New Jerusalem. I have chosen to describe this wonderful place by what is not there. The Book of Revelation tells much more about this place and what is there.

Last week, “All Things New” in the Eternal State (SEMON SEEDS P14)

This week we are taking a more detailed look at the city, New Jerusalem. And we can only exclaim, “WHAT A CITY!”

A GLORIOUS CITY – Revelation 21:9-21

Vs. 9 – Israel is alluded to as the “bride or wife of God”.

             Jeremiah 2:32

The church is the “bride of Christ”.  Revelation 19:7-9

Vs. 16 – Cube – 1 Kings 6:19-20 – 1,400-1,500 miles long, wide, high

Vs. 17 – Wall – probable width – 216 feet

A SANCTIFIED CITY – Revelation 21:22-27

A holy city is a “sanctified” city, set apart for God who is holy.

Vs. 23 – 1 John 1:5 - … God is light and in Him is no darkness at all

A VICTORIOUS CITY – Revelation 22:1-5

REVELATION 2-3 – IT’S WORTH IT!

Thinking About Heaven #3

  • Hours to make a meal – eaten in 20 minutes – Is it worth it?
  • Invest hours in a person and they disappoint or criticize you? Is it worth it?  I think a parent has asked that question many a time.
  • Working hard to get a college degree.  You might ask. “Is it worth it?”
  • You trust the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior. You find that you’ve lost friends, given up things for Him, committed your life to Him and stopped having “fun”, so to speak. When you get discouraged, or things aren’t going the way you think they should, you might ask “Is it worth it?” The answer to this one is a resounding “Yes!”

 We’ve been “Talking about Heaven.”

  1. Revelation 21:1-8 – “All Things New!”
  2. Revelation 21:9-22:5 – “What A City!”
  3. Revelation 2-3 – It’s Worth It!

Revelation is addressed to seven churches. The Lord evaluates them and ends with a word of encouragement for overcomers!

WHO IS THE OVERCOMER? – 1 John 5:3-5

  • Why does the world need overcoming? 1 John 2:15-17, Ephesians 2:1-3
  • Jesus has overcome Satan and the world for us. 1 John 3:8, 1 Peter 2:22-25
  • To believe on Jesus is to trust Him. 1 John 5:3-4
  • So, the one who overcomes is the one who has become a “Christ-follower”. It is not easy! In fact, sometimes the Christian life is hard. And Jesus is always here through His Spirit to empower us.

So, how is it worth it?

PARADISE - Revelation 2:7

Vs. 7 – Adam and Eve had been evicted from the Garden of Eden so they would not eat of the Tree of Life. This tree of life is phenomenal.  Revelation 22:2

PROTECTION – Revelation 2:11

Not hurt by the second death.

PERSONALITY – Revelation 2:17

Hidden Manna – Special Relationship with Christ, the Bread of Life. We will never hunger or thirst.

White Stone with name on it – Admission pass to an awards banquet

Special name – known only to God and us (Pet Name)

POWER – Revelation 2:26-29

Vs. 26 – Power over the nations – Millennium

Vs. 27 – Rule (Shepherd) – Psalm 2:8-9

Vs. 28 – Morning Star – Jesus Himself – Revelation 22:16

PURITY – Revelation 3:5-6

White Raiment – Clothed with righteousness

Name permanently in the Book of Life

Our name confessed by the Lord Jesus before God and Angels

PERMANENCE – Revelation 3:12-13

Pillars constructed to bring honor

Name of God and God’s city written on us

Christ’s new name written on us

PROMINENCE – Revelation 3:21-22

We will sit with Christ on His throne!
