SERMON SEEDS ARCHIVES

PHILIPPIANS

Through no fault of our own, about 5 years of Sermon Seeds was               deleted from the Website of the First Baptist Church.

We decided that it was time to begin archiving them in a different way.

Please be patient as we gradually archive these outlines.

PHILIPPIANS 1:1-2 – THE TEAM

Philippians – Partnership in the Gospel #1

If you are a Christian, you are part of a very special partnership.  It is called the church.  Matthew 16:18, Matthew 28:19-20

The church in Philippi was founded by Paul and Silas. Acts 16:6-40

Paul was thankful for their partnership in the Gospel from the very beginning.  Philippians 1:5, 27

So, what is the Gospel? 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Romans 1:16-17, Romans 10:9-10

When there is a team, there are team members with various duties. In Philippians 1:1-2, Paul introduces us to the team.

SLAVES (Servants) – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Philippians 2:5-8, Exodus 21:1-6

SAINTS

A saint is set apart, holy, “in Christ Jesus”.  In Christ, I have the ability to live the Christian life that God wants me to live. Philippians 4:13, 1 Peter 1:13-19

SUPERVISORS (Overseers, Bishops, Elders)

1 Peter 5:1-4, Titus 1:5-9, 1 Timothy 3:1-7

SERVANTS (Deacons, Ministers)

Acts 6:1-4, 1 Timothy 3:8-13

SUPERIORS

We have great superiors who provide all we need for the sake of partnering in the Gospel. They provide:

Grace – Ephesians 2:8-9, 1 Peter 5:10, 2 Peter 3:18

Peace – Romans 5:1, Hebrews 13:20-21

HOW DO YOU FIT ON THE TEAM?

PHILIPPIANS 1:9-11 – FIVE FOR LIFE

PHILIPPIANS – PARTNERSHIP IN THE GOSPEL #3

Christian, you only have one life before you will be judged by your Lord and Savior! What are you doing with it?

Thinking of the phrase “Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last”, I see in Paul’s prayer for the Philippians, five qualities for us to develop so that we can live a life that will bear fruit forever. We can call them “Five for Life”.

PHILIPPIANS 1:12-18 – YOU ARE HERE!

PHILIPPIANS – PARTNERSHIP IN THE GOSPEL #4

You’ve seen them at shopping malls – those big maps of the facility.  One of the most helpful features of such a map is the little arrow or marker that says, “YOU ARE HERE!”

2,000 years ago, a map for the Apostle Paul who was a prisoner in a rented house, might have said, “You are here. You have been a prisoner for about 5 years. You have been in Rome for almost two years and you don’t know whether you will be acquitted or be executed.”

And this was not all that Paul had been through.  2 Corinthians 13:24-28.

You might expect some bitter person who was rotting away as a prisoner. Not so! In Philippians 2:12-18, Paul shows you what to do in whatever situation you find yourself.

You are here. Do your best.

You are here. Inspire others!

You are here. Remember that people’s motives vary.

You are here. Rejoice when Christ is proclaimed!

As you look at the map of your life and it says “You are here!” you should have the same reaction as the Apostle Paul.

You are here. Do your best. Vss. 12-13

Philippians 4:11-13, Acts 28:30-31, Philippians 4:22

2 Corinthians 5:20

You are here. Inspire others! Vs. 14

1 Timothy 4:12, 1 Corinthians 11:1

You are here. Remember that people’s motives vary. Vss. 15-17

It is not our job to pronounce judgment on people’s motives.

1 Corinthians 4:5

You are here. Rejoice when Christ is proclaimed! Vs. 18

AS CHRIST – 1 John 3:1-3, 1 John 2:1-6, John 15:18-20

FOR CHRIST – 2 Corinthians 5:14-15, 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

PHILIPPIANS 2:12-16 – AN INFLUENTIAL LIFE

PHILIPPIANS – PARTNERSHIP IN THE GOSPEL #9

Every one of us has been influenced by our family and friends either for good or bad.  I see some of the same good qualities in my parents alive and well in me.  I see some of the bad qualities of my parents alive and well in me.

We should want to be a positive influence for our Lord Jesus Christ through our words and deeds. In our text Paul shows us how to be a positive influence to both saved and unsaved people.

PHILIPPIANS 4:10-13 – SIGNS YOU ARE GROWING UP

Philippians – PARTNERSHIP IN THE GOSPEL #19

You’ve probably said to other people, “Why don’t you grow up?”  And it is true that all people, at one time or another, start acting like responsible adults.

This is also true for us as Christians. As Paul winds down his letter to the Philippians, he shows his own Spiritual maturity as he acknowledges a gift of support that the Philippians had sent while he was in jail.  His words lead us to evaluate our own Spiritual maturity. Are there signs in our lives that we are growing up Spiritually?

PHILLIPIANS 4:14-19 - MISSIONS GIVING

PAYMENTS OF SUPPORT

Philippians 4:14-16 - Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction. [16] For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.

PURPOSE FOR CONCERN
